We here at The Daily Mobster (really just 3 of us) are so excited and thrilled to have completed the massive tasks we have sought to do. While the undertaking of prebuild* most of last year, this year (2025) has been solely focused on the production of chapters. The first two chapters were quite a challenge, exploring all the look of noir lighting and the bold cinematic visual style we aim to achieve, all the technical buildings of 3d character rigs, testing them, adding texture, clothes, hair, and props and then simply assembling working scenes has been quite a challenge.
But believe it or not, the bigger challenge has been the story. Slavik and Jack both come from animation and visual effects, and it's the main reason doing this graphic novel in the 3d rendered style it is was decided on; however, writing something this large and for the comic format was a new endeavor. Jack has writing experience on dozens of short stories, short films, feature film consultation, theatre show consultation and animated television series consultation, he has only written short comics, when he was in highschool. While Slavik knows story, and has been immersed in it for years, including writing and producing several of his own short films, The Daily Mobster requires a unique approach.

We want the story to be top tier, compete with the best of the best and in an idealist world, become something of a "great American story." While that future is yet to be seen, we still strive for it and simply writing outlines, expanding it out to the full season of storytelling, then back down to a scene per scene basis has been a huge challenge on the Daily Mobster graphic novel.
The characters need to feel full, and reel, and as you can tell, quirky. People are complex, complicated, and even contradictory and we want the story to really show that. The plot grows with each issue, and ensuring consistency across all the chapters is key, avoiding story points that feel convenient or simply out of nowhere is one of our top focuses. However our top goal is clarity, both in visuals and storytelling. There's nothing more frustrating than reading a graphic novel and you either don't know where to look or at what panel next, OR the story is so confusing you might as well just close the book.
We'll continue to post production updates, but it's been fun working with new characters each issue, as we continue to introduce even more to the world of The Daily Mobster.
Cheers, and thank you for being part of the Family.

*prebuild - the name for the early process of assembling character assets, sets, props, textures and all the elements that would be needed to assemble a scene. This period is quite long and consists of building dozens, perhaps hundreds of assets to be used in actual production.
